Should I get my extremely thick, long dark hair cut into a bob?

I have really thick brown hair and for years I've worn it in layers; it's fairly long, and reaches past my shoulders.

But I really feel like a change! Am very tempted to have a bob, maybe to about jaw length, or just past the jaw. Everyone always says I have a tiny face and my chin is very pointed, so am hoping a bob might look OK.

Am just wondering, though, if men really do prefer long hair on women - I think shorter hair can be much cuter!

I've got thick curly hair (that I usually straighten) that was long and I recently had it cut to above the shoulders in a bob. It's so much easier to deal with and in much healthier condition. I think bobs are much more in fashion right now and generally suit any hair type as there are so many products and straighteners available nowadays, anyone can have a sleek bob. Don't worry about what the men prefer, if you fancy a bob - go for it! I don't think a few inches of hair length would make any difference to any guy that liked you.

ooo i duno! its entirly up to you. i used to have long hair n i loved it then i had a bob n regreted it ever since. this was about 5 years ago. im still tryin to grow ma hair n its takin ages, especially cos i straighten it all the time. y dont ya have it cut to mid length first n c how u cope without ya hair n then if ya get on alrite, have the rest chopped? good luck!

maybe shorter hair might be cuter to some men, but remember, you're hair is thick, cut to the jaw line it would probably stick out slightly. i would try a longer length first to see how it lays.

I really wouldn't go for a bob. You'll have so much hassle trying to tame the thick hair and end up damaging it with straighteners causing frizz.

If its purely for your benefit, then i would say if you feel like a change then go ahead, you can always get clip on extensions, but otherwise i would say, yes it probably would look okey, but what you don't want to do is cut it all off, and change your mind, so why not either go to a wig store and just try one on, or flip part of your hair to the other side, but hold it up in the mirror, so you can get an idea what it would like. I myself have thick, long brown hair, but i don't have layers, my chin is quite pointed to, but to be honest i don't think a bob will make it any better, with long hair you can take the attention of your chin, but if you cut it your hair will be about the same length, so you'll end up making it even more obvious than it already is, hope that helps.

No!!! Once you have a bob, you can only wear your hair one way. I had it done and really regret it, it takes soooooo long to grow out!!! With long hair you can do so much with it. keep the length, just go for a different style.

Try having in 3-4 layers...a square cut as the last layer will do wonders...they are quite in.

well, if you have really thick hair then i do not suggest you cut it into a bob because the shorter and thicker your hair is, the bigger it becomes. so, if you cut it that short, it's most likely going to puff out and become huge, unless you want to straighten it like everyday until it grows out. you should cut it like a little bit under your shoulder and see if that suits you. if you still dont like it, then i guess cut it into a bob, but you best know what's coming!

All of my male friends tell me to keep growing out my hair because they love my long hair, and I think you would regret cutting off all. Maybe change the color, or ask your stylist what she/he thinks may look best. If you really want a change wait at least a week and a half, and if you still want it you could go for it! Just remember hair takes a long time to grow out.

Oh and bobs with thick hair take a lot of work, I used to have one it just is so much work you have to straighten and put creams and slickning stuff, just to warn you it IS a lot more work than long straight hair

i was in exactly the same position as you and had all my hair lopped off, to say i was disapointed in the results is a massive understatement. from my own experienec id say keep it long but maybe change the style a little (ie add a fringe or sumthing). mines only just grown back (5 years later)....

I have very thick hair also and found having it too long a pain and a drag on my face.

I got it cut to my neck line in a sharp cut layer bob with strong defining highlights, and have to say it made a world of difference!

i think that if you want a bob, then go for it!!!!!!!!! Your face would definately suit a bob, tiny face and pointy chin.

If your hair is thick then ask for it to be thinned down, so then your hair will look better in the bob. Also if you dont have any, buy some hair straighteners so you can easily have your bob straightened if you dont have time to wash it before you go out. Ask advice from the hairdressers on how to look after it and style it, so then you know what you are doing. Change is good........go for it....if you dont like it, it will grow back!!!! hope this helps xxx

yes, cut it into a bob, but the bob must be blunt as your hair is thick, this'l look really stylish, dont put layers into a bob as you'l end up looking like a mop, make sure its blunt with razor sharp edges-ultra snazzy!

and it looks great!

Make sure if you do get it cut like that, That you have layers, and that it is thinned out and featherd at the ends, So it's not as much as a hassle.

With my hair i have to straighten it everyday, So make sure that you use conditioning products everyweek and use heat protection spray on your hair to prevent damage.

I hate to say this but I really think most guys prefer long hair. Having said that it's your hair and shorter hair can look cute!. I would say think very carefully before you do anything as once you chop you'll have a lot more styling to do plus, get a really good cut if you have very thick hair as you don't want it to "ping" out too much. I think your face shape sounds like it would really suit a bob but just really consider it first!

Hi I wouldnt recommend it I have thick hair and bobs are usually for people with thin hair to give it a look of having volume. When I have a bob my hair looks twice as thick and is so hard to control.

This was because when thick hair is long there us weight to hold it down, but when its short it tend to do what it wants to do. But I suppose if you really do want a change and with it getting to summer long thick hair is really hot as I well know. But a change is as good as the rest and of course you hair will grow back.

I like long thick hair. If you want to change your appearance you could try doing your hair in a different way. Depending on your age and appearance you can try pony tails out each side of your head. I like long hair done up. I like the idea of releasing it. french plaits look good too. there are many things that can be done with long hair.
